Hello there everyone. My name is James and I’m the director for the Academy of Music in Burlington, Oakville, and Georgetown, as well as the Brampton School of Music. I’m here with a quick video update.

We will start with spirit week. Next week on June 18th through to the 24th we are encouraging our students to come in a beach themed outfit or bring something beach themed. This could be a Hawaiian shirt, it could be hats, sunglasses, pool noodle, beach ball, sand bucket. Anything at all that you think relates to the beach. It is a spirit week and everyone who participates will get entered to win to win a crafty prize made by our assistant manager Vanessa as well as a gift card to Dairy Queen. You can go and celebrate the heat with a nice cold treat.

Our summer recital and appreciation days for the Burlington and Oakville location are on August 13th in Oakville and for the Georgetown and Brampton locations they’re in Georgetown on August 20th. I’m going to have a free barbecue. I’m going to be there myself cooking hamburgers, hot dogs and veggie burgers like last year for those of you who made it. It’s a free lunch on us. It’s one of our ways of just saying thank you for being a student with our school but it’s also an opportunity to perform. We have a tent with all the equipment. The sign up sheets are already available so please sign up and talk to your teacher about what you’re playing at the recital. We plan to have a bouncy castle, face painting, games and prizes and basically just an afternoon of summer fun.

I’d like to take a moment and welcome the 48 new students since my last update. 48 new students have decided to join us on their journey of music. We’re glad you’re here and we appreciate you. We’re thrilled to be a part of your musical Journey. Welcome!

January 27th of next year we’re going to have our very first Disney recital and Gala. It’s not at Disney. It’s actually in Oakville. We’re renting a ballroom. We’re going to have a lovely dinner and Gala event. Students are going to perform Disney songs and of course wear all your favorite Disney outfits. It’s going to be a lot of fun! That’s January 27th of 2024 if you want to put that on your calendar. We’ll have more details coming up soon.

Finally, on the same theme as recitals; we make it our goal to consistently find new opportunities for our students to perform for others and to set musical goals. This is why we have three recitals a year. This is why we have the Musical Ladder System. This is why we have the Practice Challenge Program. it’s all about setting personal musical goals and doing something nice for your community. We will be arranging seniors homes concerts where students can sign up come with us and perform for 45 minutes or an hour. not one student but 10 to 20 students will perform for the seniors. It’s an amazing opportunity for a you to work on your music and set a musical goal, help out your community and play for an audience that truly appreciates your music. That’s coming up soon keep an eye for that.

This system helps motivate students to create and achieve musical goals with their instructor.
